EMPLOYMENT HISTORY


Senior Engineering Program Manager. Nortech Systems, Inc., (formerly Winland Electronics, Inc.) Mankato, MN. (2011 – 2019)

Responsible for managing multiple concurrent design and manufacturing support projects of widely varying scope and duration. Accountable for customer relationship management from initial point of contact through the entire sales process, including quotes and proposals, defining project scope, risk assessment, project planning, execution, transfer to manufacturing, and product launch. Managed design and product development project teams of two to ten engineers, including local, global, and outside contract resources. Most technical project assignments were electrical engineering R&D and product design and development for Industrial, Medical, or Aerospace and Defense markets. Interfaced with manufacturing and project engineering in developing production and test plans, equipment and assembly fixtures, verification, validation, engineering reports, and other documentation. Responsible for financial and technical aspects of projects, including innovative cost effective solutions to scope changes. Worked with sales and marketing personnel on sales literature and web site updates, trade shows, customer visits, etc. Also responsible for ERP system installation and support; engineering department resource allocation; department process improvement activities; and KPI metrics.


Engineering Manager / Project Manager. Winland Electronics, Inc., Mankato, MN. (2006 – 2011)

Beginning as a Project Manager, responsible for managing engineering design projects. Responsible for all phases of the project and product development process, from assisting with Business Development activities, defining scope of work, creating a project plan, project schedule, and cost estimates, risk management documentation, writing proposals, reviewing and negotiating contract details, assigning and managing project resources, status tracking and reporting, and managing project changes. In addition to managing the projects, I often assisted with technical aspects of the projects, including writing technical requirements, specifications, test protocols, and other project documentation, as well as using my problem solving skills to diagnose technical issues and resolve issues with hardware and software design errors. I participated in and facilitated design reviews and ECO reviews and approvals. In the role of Engineering Manager, I was also responsible for program management, day to day department management and mentoring, oversee staffing and operating budget reviews, financial and ISO Audits, adherence to all applicable industry standards, continuous improvement activities, and strategic direction and growth initiatives. I was the Engineering Department representative on the ISO certification and compliance team, where I reviewed and updated all relevant Quality Management System processes and documents to align with current Quality Standards and best practices.


Product Manager / Applications Engineer / Design Engineer. Blue Earth Research, Mankato, MN (1989 – 2006)

Created microcontroller based hardware and software designs for everything from small embedded systems controllers to motion control and data acquisition systems. Since this started out as a very small company, I was responsible for the complete product lifecycle, including market and business requirements, product specification development, systems engineering, hardware design and electrical engineering for AC and DC circuits, schematic design using a variety of CAD tools, firmware and software design and coding, board bring-up and debugging, product and system manufacturing and testing documentation, production support, marketing, sales, standard orders, customized orders, and customer technical support. Once the initial product lines were established, my focus alternated between product management, product enhancements and new product lines, and creating application-specific customized versions of standard products for specific customers or markets.

Responsible for sales and marketing support for technical products. I also worked with engineering to provide product training and support as well as marketing literature and pricing for new products.
